Problem solved

Today I had to make some adjustments to Harriets recliner slipcover. I loaded up my trusty Pfaff home sew and off I went. As I was setting up my sewing space, I realized that I hadn't brought the proper thread holder, without it I wouldn't be able to do the job at Harriets but would have to take it back to the shop. I explained this to Harriet. In less than 5 minutes she had come up with the solution, a broken plastic hanger. She dug it out of the trash and installed it. It worked perfect and I was able to finish the project.

Spring Slipcovers

washableSpring is here in Florida, about a month or two early. Everyone seems more than ready to spruce up their Florida home. Sometimes it seems like a daunting task to commission someone to make your slipcovers when you don't live here year around. Let me share with you how I handle this. Lets say you live in New York and have a home in Siesta Key. If you have a neighbor or friend or a condo management that can let me in, I can look at the furniture and  determine how much fabric you will need, then we can talk about fabric and I can give you a quote as to how much the project will cost.

The start of Covers by Carrie

Welcome to my blog. I am a seamstress, living in the Village of the Arts, in the lovely city of Bradenton, Florida. I opened my upholstery shop way back in 1982 on Anna Maria Island, as a single Mom with three children.   It was so wonderful working on the island. The work ethics on the island were much different then any that I was aware of. If it was a beautiful day, work might not start until noon. Maybe the customers weren't too keen on this lacks-a-daisy attitude, but they learned to chalk it up as "island work ethics" and forgave you.
